Principal Function
Responsible for the successful running of the expedition/project including the management of all volunteer staff & volunteers, project logistics, administration and accounts. To ensure the smooth running of day to day operations, including the science, community and scuba programmes. Progress the community projects, making sure Barefoot conservations overall project goals move forward and remain on course.
General role description
- Responsible for the overall project management, making sure the project remains on track and moving forward to achieve its goals.
- Administration and control of project budget, ensuring that expenditure does not exceed allocated funds.
- To ensure the health & safety of all volunteers & volunteer/local staff involved in the project.
- Overall organisation & supervision of volunteer staff & activities, including the scheduling of science, community and scuba programmes.
- To manage local Barefoot Conservation staff, boat drivers, cooks etc.. as appropriate including payment of wages and resolving any disputes/issues that may arise.
- Manage & support volunteers, expedition/local staff ensuring all remain happy, motivated and focused on the expedition goals.
Main duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall project management, making sure the project remains on track and moving forward to achieve its goals. Working with all project partners/stakeholders and local government/community leaders, keeping all parties updated regularly.
- To oversee & arrange arrival of new volunteers & volunteer staff, arranging transport, accommodation & briefing volunteers & staff on all aspects of country life upon their arrival.
- To send bi-monthly reports to the Head of Operations including reporting on accounts, logistics, staff, equipment inventories & risk assesments.
- To ensure the health & safety of all volunteers & volunteer/local staff involved in the project, dealing with any medical incidents should they arise. Being ready to initiate & implement the emergency exacuation procedure, if necessary.
- To ensure the day to day operations run smoothly, this may include filling tanks, buying fuel & food, making sure meals are served on time, any site chores are done by staff & volunteers, arranging community projects in conjunction with the community team, undertaking the science Training Programme and doing survey dives.
Logistics
- Undertake any site maintenance, with the help of the local Papupan family that own the land/bungalows.
- Liaise with the UK operations tean to ensure volunteers & staff are collected & dropped off in Waisai, at their start and end expedition dates.
Other
- When necessary write project progress reports and other documentation for the company’s website.
- Any other task as required by the Head of Operations or Managing Director/CEO.
Terms & Conditions
Contract Duration:- 6 month contract (173 days).
Salary:- None. This is a voluntary, non paid position.
Travel Reimbursement Bonus:- Up to £600 end of contract travel reimbursement bonus, depending on personal/company performance during contract term.
Accommodation/Food:- Basic shared accom and food provided at Raja Ampat project site.
Visa:- All visa extensions will be paid for by Barefoot Conservation*
Training:- Free EFR, PADI Rescue Diver and Divemaster courses**
* Initial Social Visa fee, all visa extensions will be paid for by Barefoot Conservation.
